Artist
In my painting, I aim to express my emotions towards reality rather than simply representing what I see. Although my paintings are mostly representative, I intentionally relinquish complete control over them. I encourage accidents to occur in my work by creating splashes of paint or allowing the paint to flow freely on the canvas. From this abstract foundation, I carefully place a few details to guide the viewer's perception towards the idea that inspired me, leaving room for their imagination to take over. The merging of the realistic with the abstract is a captivating game to me, as it involves fusing something chaotic with something precise and representative. For me, the process of creating art is an experiment more than anything else.
Artist’s BIO:
Nadia Ryzhakova is a British artist of Russian origin. She was born in Tver, USSR, and received formal training in Monumental Arts from the Stroganov Academy of Arts in Moscow. Nadia moved to the UK in 2010, where she earned a MA in Culture Policy and Management in London.
In London, Nadia found herself without a place to paint, which prompted her to explore digital iPad drawings. Her work gained quick recognition, resulting in a publication in the London Evening Standard, an interview with Sky News, and an invitation from the Victoria & Albert Museum to collaborate on an iPad drawing class.
Despite her digital success, in 2015 Nadia returned to the traditional medium of oil painting, which allowed her to discover her creative voice. In 2016, Nadia won John Palmer Painting Competition award and was featured in the Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard. Her artistic process is guided by her emotions, and she seeks to merge chaos with precision and representation. Nadia encourages accidental occurrences on the canvas by making paint splashes or allowing the paint to flow freely. By placing strategic details, she guides the viewer's perception towards the inspiration that drives her and encourages their imagination to take over. Nadia considers this game of merging abstract with the realistic to be fascinating, and views her work as an ongoing experiment.
